3SOMS = 3rd Sunday Of Month Swim

closes 15 min before start times.

Timed clockwise early morning swim .
Choice of Number of Laps or Short route.
Challenging yet Fun (without or with a wetsuit)

Straight forward circuit route off 4th beach

Long route:

This swim is straight forward
Swim around the course keeping the buoys on your right-shoulder. The route is from 4th around the buoys and back. Timing stops when you pass the finish line on the beach.

After the self-seeded wave start on the beach, enter the shallows and aim for Duiker rock (or the deep Yellow buoy)

Pass shallow red buoy keeping the buoy on your right shoulder

Right-shoulder turn around deep Yellow buoy and head for deep Yellow buoy . Expect swell movement to lift you towards the beach.

Aim for 3rd Beach …
Expect fast water… you are swimming back with the swell and will be swimming down small mountains

Keeping shallow RED buoy on your right-shoulder continue towards 4th beach (3 palm trees on ridge). You should be a bit more protected from the swell now and you can make up some time.

Left-shoulder turn at shallow Red buoy and head for the beach. Remember timing stops when you cross the timing mat. Continue to the recorders desk and provide your Race number, Name and Category.

Short routes TO BE CONFIRMED – there are probably 2 routes.

300m anti-clockwise

Starting on 3rd beach .. out to the shallow RED buoy.. keep the buoy on the left shoulder and continue towards 4th. Turn left and the next shallow RED buoy and head back to the beach.

500m out-and-back

OPTION 1 :Starting on the beach .. out to the deep buoy.. keep the buoy on the right shoulder turn at the deep YELLOW Buoy.Watch out for swimmers in the opposite direction!![/vc_toggle]

10 second What-you-need-to-know

Meet at Clifton 4th early..shhh everyone is asleep,
at recorder’s desk (indicating race number),
Acclimatise while awaiting the race briefing,


Listen to the race briefing and take note of any route changes,
High-five the headcount controllers,
Pose for a Group pic,
Under Starters Orders..

Waves of 10-15 a couple of seconds apart.


Swim the demarcated route (and listen to any instruction from water safety team),

Take sequenced finish-tag to recorder’s desk,

Add another discipline before breakfast.
